Laughter is Good for the Soul!
It's good to reflect on things that make you laugh. I was looking through my class pictures and as I looked at certain students I was reminded of funny incidents that occured in the classroom. I had the pleasure of teaching a student from Ghana this year and he taught us many things from his country. One day we were integrating dance and movement into a lesson as we elaborated on motion and action. The class could not stop laughing as they watched themselves, and especially me, trying to catch on to an African dance. I often wrote songs about concepts and I enjoyed watching the students laugh with excitement as I taught them new beats and rhymes. Boy did we have alot of fun! Are there any funny stories you encountered this school year? Share them with us and make us laugh ourselves silly.

I couldn't agree more that laughter is the best medicine on the job.Of course we all take our jobs seriously but we can all take some time to enjoy our work and have some fun. I am sitting here and I am trying to reflect on funny things that have occurred during the school year that have really made me laugh and I can hardly recall a specific situation, but I cannot recall a day when I didn't laugh with a colleague, parent, or student.
If more people would just let their guards down and just laugh at themselves and not take everything so serious, the world would be a much better place. Great post! Jim
Laughter... my absolute favorite subject! It is so healing and cathartic to have a good laugh! When I was teaching my student success course, sometimes we'd laugh so loud a neighboring instructor would have to come quiet us down. I felt badly that we had disturbed them, but felt torn, as I knew the laughter was a productive part of our class. Sometimes you have to make a decision to leave the beaten path just for laughs. One day in the middle of class, one of my students (who, admittedly, has ADD), asked me if I knew what the grandfather from "Hey Arnold" looked like. I stopped my discussion and said that I did. He then asked if I thought he looked like him, because his classmate said he resembled the grandfather. Now, if you know what grandpa looks like, you'd know that wasn't a compliment! I walked to the computer, went to YouTube, and quickly brought up a video clip of the grandfather laughing. We all broke into laughter while I assured the student he did not look like the old man! This had absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand, but I felt the comedy relief added value to the session. I hope I was right!
If everyone would laugh a little more, I believe we would live in a much better place. Some people seem so uptight. I receive a list of 35 Sure Fire Stress Reducers. On that list, Number 26 simply says, laugh. Immediately following, number 27 says, Laugh some more. I try to live by those stress reducers. For someone like my husband who seldom laughs and smiles, learning to live by numbers 26 and 27 on that list will do him a lot of good. Everything doesn't have to always be so serious. Let's just laugh!
